Pratyahara workshops are offered by Charles MacInerney
in Austin, Texas, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and other
US cities, as well as on retreat in Mexico and Costa Rica.
Pratyahara is the ancient Yoga practice of controlling
the senses. Most people are helpless to reign in their senses, which
jump to the loudest, fastest, brightest, sounds, colors, shapes, tastes,
and sensations. Thus they are unable to concentrate when their environment
is not conducive.
The key to deep concentration and meditation lays
in the control of our senses, so that we are able to choose where
our attention is placed.
This workshop is a combination of lecture on basic
history, philosophy and strategies for learning sense withdrawal,
followed by an experiential component where participants learn ancient
practices based upon these underlying principles, that produce a relaxation
so deep that many are reluctant to come back to their normal conscious
states of agitation, and having experienced the deep and profound
sense of well-being, many go on to make the necessary lifestyle changes
necessary to support a more spiritually, balanced life.
