Yoga
for Children
Charles has
worked with pre-schoolers and taught yoga and relaxation to a
group of 45 first graders with behavioral problems in a summer
school program. He has conducted workshops for the staff and kids
of the Austin Children's Shelter, and taught ongoing classes at
the Texas School for the Blind. In 1996 he spent 3 weeks in a
summer camp working with gifted children ages 7-11 for 4 hours
a day, 5 days a week for 3 weeks teaching yoga, meditation, visualization,
balance, posture, and relaxation.
Charles has
also worked with At-Risk-Youth, first with 10th grade students
at Reagan High School (primarily minority students from lower
income families) and then with 30 kids from a county program for
first time offenders. In addition, he continues to work with all
ages of kids in both private sessions and in adult classes.
Due to the
success he has had working with individuals, Charles was recently
approached by a county judge and asked to submit a proposal for
setting up a program to teach yoga and breath control as tools
for self-control to at-risk-youth. This program is currently on
hold, but he hopes to move ahead with it soon. He has also worked
with over 25 yoga teachers from around the country, sharing his
program for working with troubled teenagers.
Charles has
a long running relationship with the University of Texas teaching
yoga, concentration, visualization and stress management to the
Women's Athletic Program, as well as the Departments of Kinesiology
& Health Education, Recreational Sports (Faculty & Staff), Music,
Art, Humanities Research Center Staff, Campus Dormitories, and
Informal Classes.
