Yoga and Writing Retreats in Mexico
with Charles MacInerney

|
SCHEDULE
At
the heart of this retreat is the combination of
Hatha Yoga, Meditation, and Creative Writing. Charles
and his numerous students have found this combination
to be very powerful. The Yoga serves to energize
participants and creates a sense of physical well-being,
while bringing them back to their body and their
senses. Each Yoga class ends with a deep guided
relaxation which calms the mind and relaxes students
into a creative Alpha brainwave pattern. Then we
write, often flow of consciousness, with out editing
or filtering. Then we gather in small, intimate
groups and anyone who wishes to, reads what they
have written.
Beginning and experienced writers alike will find
a supportive, encouraging context in which to write
from their deepest selves.
The most important
aspect of the schedule is that all yoga, writing
workshops, and even meals are optional and should
be considered free time. We often have a writer
who chooses not to participate in the yoga, or a
yoga student who chooses not to participate in the
writing component. This retreat is for the participants
to make of it what they want and need.

On
Tuesday and Thursday we will schedule
special trips for the more adventurous.
We will still have the early morning
Yoga but after breakfast we will
set out for either the Marietta's
Islands, or the high mountain waterfalls.
Both trips return in time for the
evening Yoga and dinner, and we
will have an evening writing session.
These trips are optional, and do
cost about $25 extra but as you
will see below, are well worth the
price. For those who choose to stay
behind, there is plenty to see and
do at the retreat center, the beach
and in the village.

The
Marrietas Islands
The
first trip is a 1 hour private
chartered boat ride out to the
Marietta's Islands, nesting grounds
of the endangered Blue Footed
Booby.

| Here
we will swim, snorkel have a picnic lunch and relax. The islands
are part of a volcanic reef which encloses and protects the
bay. There are lots of tropical fish of all descriptions and
the water is warm, emerald green, and shark-free. We usually
spend 3 or 4 hours enjoying the islands, before boarding the
boat for our return trip. The photograph below shows the West
side of the Island where we find the best volcanic reefs and
the most abundant fish, as well as calm water for snorkeling.

The
High Mountain Waterfalls
The
second trip will take us up river into the Sierra Madres, either
hiking or by horse, on well worn trails through the jungle,
to the high mountain waterfalls. Here we will spend time watching
birds, including macaws, parrots and the like, as well as butterflies,
orchids, and spectacular scenery.
We will have a picnic lunch alongside a series
of waterfalls and rapids, and then spend several hours exploring
up and down the river, playing, swimming, climbing rocks, relaxing
and enjoying this sacred space.
