Banderas
Bay is one of the largest protected bays in the
world, and has many adventures, sights & sounds
to offer travelors to this area, including rivers,
waterfalls, snorkling, bird watching, whale watching,
dozens of small towns, villages, and communities
to explore, not to mention Puerto Vallarta.

Yelapa
 Our
retreats are held in the village of Yelapa, at Los Naranjos
Retreat Center. Yelapa is a small fishing village at the southern
end of Banderas Bay. It is cut off by mountains so there are
no electrict lines or roads connecting the village with the
modern world. The only access is by boat or the trail over the
mountains by mule.
Yelapa is set in an indian reserve and has strict
laws to protect the rights and livelihoods of the original inhabitants...
five extended families.
Americans and Mexicans are not allowed to own
land or operate businesses in Yelapa. They must find a sponsor
among the original villagers who then becomes a silent partner
and owns the business. In this way, money stays in the village,
and big hotels and other developments are kept out. This is
in large part responsible for the idylic lifestyle of the villagers.
Yelapa is home to about a thousand indians (although
no one is really sure how many), and about 150 Americans and
Canadians, mainly writers, artists, musicians, and other interesting
characters.
