10th Annual
Austin Free Day of Yoga

Monday, September 7, 2009

Once a year, on Labor Day, yoga teachers and studios throughout Austin, open their doors to the public and offer free yoga classes. This is done as a service, a small token of our gratitude for the continued support that we enjoy from the greater Austin yoga community. It is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of the rich diversity of excellent instruction available in Austin, and to introduce new students to Yoga.

Charles will be teaching two special workshops on Labor day, September 7th, 2009, at Cafe Dance Studio. 3307-B, Hancock Dr., Austin 78731

3-5 pm - How to Teach Balance Poses: Learn how to use a Mind-Body approach to teaching balance poses. This workshop is for yoga teachers and aspiring teachers.

6:30-8 pm - Variations on a Twist: Explore twisting asanas while standing, balancing, sitting & reclined. There will be a little theory, but mostly experiential. All levels welcome.

The first year about 800 students attended classes around the city. The day exceeded our expectations and was a great success.

The second year we added lots of classes and extra teachers to cover the higher than expected attendance and we had over 1300 people show up. The last 7 years we have averaged about 3000 participants, some from as far away as Houston and Dallas.

If you do not live in Austin, and would like to start your own Free Day of Yoga in your home city, please contact Charles and he can provide you with an outline of what is involved, and timelines to help you get started.
