As December 24, 2025, arrives, this season invites us to honor the past while embracing the future. Year-end marks closure and renewal.
My mother shared the ancient Chinese curse, “May you live in interesting times,” then added sadly, “You have been born into interesting times.” She often dwelled on the past, seeing change as disruption. My father eagerly spoke of the future—nuclear fusion, AI, space colonization—viewing change as creation. She grounded him; he pulled her forward. From them, I learned to honor both past and future.
My first yoga teacher taught the power of full presence, awareness, and compassion in the now. I am deeply grateful for such wise teachers.
This holiday season, I partner with Michelle Fajkus to lead an 8-day Purpose and Passion yoga retreat on Guatemala’s Lake Atitlán.There we will give thanks for the past, reflect on and plan for the future, and above all, simply be—absorbing the lake’s clear waters, majestic volcanoes, sounds, and sensations. I hope you find time to do the same.
Set flexible intentions, not rigid resolutions. Stay flexible—physically, mentally, emotionally—while remaining calm. This balance sharpens awareness to seize opportunities.
Whether we see transformation as destruction or creation is a matter of perspective. The Chinese curse becomes a blessing when we honor the past, but remember to live fully in the present, and fearlessly embrace what may come.
