We are so excited to announce that Kelli Sammis, Owner and Founder of The Bridge Yoga Studio in College Station, and Charles MacInerney will be attending this Yoga Retreat as Teachers.

This will be a really special event – that combines a daily yoga and meditation practice with culture and adventure! Our itinerary will include waterfalls, hikes, horse back riding, incredible wildlife, boat trips, snorkeling, local shopping, Eating out at local restaurants, meeting and getting to know locals, and delicious home cooked meals.

Yelapa Fun Facts!

  • In 1581 King Philip II of Spain formally granted all property rights of this territory to the people of Yelapa and their community. Yelapa is an indigenous community still owned and controlled by the founding families.

  • Most native Yelapians still garden, farm, or fish.

  • There are no roads to Yelapa — but it’s only a 45 min ride from Puerto Vallarta by taxi boat

  • Because there are no roads, there are no cars – it’s a true escape

  • Electricity and phones didn’t arrive to Yelapa until 2001

Yoga & Meditation

Having two experienced yoga instructors leading Yoga classes during the retreat is such a gift to participants – as you will receive double the teaching options – from asana (physical practice) to meditation to pranayama (breath) to special Dharma talks in nature – this retreat will have it all!

Charles led his first yoga retreat in Yelapa in 1997 and fell in love with the area, the village and the locals. He has returned dozens of times to lead retreats here. The entire valley is cut off by mountains from civilization and lives quite peacefully without roads. Transportation is primarily by foot, or by donkey.

The wheel first showed up in Yelapa in 1999 (first bicycles and wheel barrows). Electricity arrived two years later, and telephones followed later. Finally, ATV’s started to appear about ten years ago.
